Sony Entertainment Television is a general entertainment channel, owned by Sony Pictures Television. In India it is owned by Multi Screen Media Private Limited. It is a subsidiary in India of Sony Pictures Television. At least 9 versions of this channel exist. Sony Entertainment Television, commonly known as Sony TV or SET, is one of India’s most popular urban Hindi-language based general entertainment channel.
Based in Mumbai, Maharashtra, it is owned by Multi Screen Media Pvt. Ltd. (MSM, formerly SET India Private Limited), a subsidiary of Sony Pictures Entertainment since 1995. SET’s programming is targeted towards family audiences. The programming covers genres including drama, reality, comedy,thriller, horror, Bollywood, and live events. Some of its most successful programmes to date include Boogie Woogie, C.I.D., Entertainment Ke Liye Kuch Bhi Karega, Indian Idol, Jassi Jaissi Koi Nahin, Jhalak Dikhhla Jaa, 10 Ka Dum, Aahat and Big Boss.
In July 2010, Sony Entertainment announced that it has bought the copyrights of Kaun Banega Crorepati from STAR Plus and aired KBC 4 with its original host Amitabh Bachchan. KBC 1 and 2 were hosted by Amitabh Bachchan and KBC 3 was hosted by Shahrukh Khan on STAR Plus. Kaun Banega Crorepati (KBC) Season 5 started on Sony Entertainment Television on the independence day, 15 August 2011 with its brand new First Episode which saw a blockbuster opening of 5.24 TVRs, in the top 3 metros Mumbai, New Delhi and Kolkata City.
