The Madras Christian College, commonly known as MCC, is a liberal arts college in in Madras (Chennai), India. Founded in 1837, MCC is one of Asia’s oldest extant colleges. Currently, the college is affiliated to the University of Madras, but functions as an autonomous institution from its campus in Tambaram, Chennai. The National Assessment and Accreditation Council rates the college at an accreditation grade of A+, the highest grade level for education institutions according to its methodology. The India Today Magazine in its June 2007 survey places MCC among the Top Ten Arts and Science Colleges in India in all the three streams— Arts, Science and Commerce.
Madras Christian College is a vibrant community of scholarship and learning, which is rated among the top ten liberal Arts and Science colleges in India. Founded in 1837 by the Scottish missionaries, the Institution is known today for providing quality education with a focus on leadership development and character formation.After existing in the heart of the city for hundred years, it got relocated in the suburban Tambaram in 1937. The alumni of College could be found around the world occupying high positions.
Today there are more than 5,500 students, both ladies and gentlemen as they are traditionally called, studying in 32 departments. More than half of about 250 faculty members possess doctorates. The 365 acre scrub jungle with rare flora and fauna is a great joy to live in.
