Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute (BMCRI) established in the year 1955 is located on K.R.Road near the city market in Bangalore , run by the Government of Karnataka. It is the only Government Medical College in Bangalore city and one among the ten Govt. Medical Colleges in Karnataka. Bangalore Medical College and Research Institute and its attached hospitals have a total land area of 115.3 acres.
Bangalore Medical College and Research Isntitute (BMCRI) Bangalore was established in 1955 by Dr. Shivram and Dr. Mekhri in what was then the fort police station ground. The college was initially run by the Mysore Medical Education Society and was later handed over to the Government of Karnataka.From its inception, the college has been associated with some of the most eminent doctors in India. It has become the most coveted destination for medical aspirants in Karnataka to study medicine and has been consistently ranked among the top fifteen medical colleges in India. It was ranked number 14 in 2007.
The College provides with a number of undergraduate and postgraduate courses in Anaesthesiology, Biochemistry, Dermatology, Forensic Medicine, General Medicine, Microbiology, Obstretics & Gynaecology, Pediatrics, Pathology, Pharmacology, Physiology, Preventive & Social Medicine, Psychiatry, Radio Diagnosis and Radiotherapy.
