The National Aviation Company of India (NACIL), which operates Air India, Indian Airlines, Air India Express and Alliance takes the fourth position in the market. Arvind Jadhav is the chairman and managing director. It is the first major domestic airline which started its operation in 1953, and is thus the oldest airline company is India. It has maintained its position since then and it is still operating with its loyal base of frequent flyers.
It Airways is part of the Indian government-owned Air India Limited (AIL).The airline operates a fleet of Airbus and Boeing aircraft serving the Asia, Australia, Europe and North America. Its corporate office is located at the Air India Building at Nariman Point in South Mumbai city. It is the 16th largest airline in Asia. Air India has two major domestic hubs at Indira Gandhi International Airport and Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport. This is international hub at Dubai International Airport is currently being planned.
The Air India Star Alliance announced on 13 December 2007 that it had invited Air India to join as a member. After several delays, the final joining date was set at 31 July 2011.Air India failed to meet the minimum standards for membership for that deadline and as a result Air India’s invitation to join the Star Alliance has been suspended.
