The National Law School of India University (NLSIU or NLS) is an institution for under-graduate and graduate legal education. Based in Nagarbhavi, a suburb in the western extremities of the city of Bangalore, the NLSIU was established in 1987 after a statute was enacted for that purpose by the Legislative Assembly of the State of Karnataka, and officially exists since August 29, 1987.A large number of retired Judges of the Supreme Court and High Courts as well as Senior Advocates have offered to assist the NLSIU in its teaching and research programmes making education at NLSIU a rare and exciting experience to the student body.

Studying at the NLSIU is quite exciting. It facilitates all round personality development. The teaching methods adopted for the degree program are such as to promote multi-disciplinary inquiry and practical appreciation of problems.There is a high degree of interaction between the students and the teachers in the classroom. NLSIU admits 80 students for its 5-year B.A., LL.B. (Hons.) programme every year.in Post-Graduate Degree Course (LL.M.) as of now NLS offers two specializations, one in Business Laws and other in Human Rights Laws.Admissions are done through CLAT (Common Law Admission Test) conducted by all the Law Schools in India.

All students enrolled in the full-time academic programmes at the NLSIU are members of the Student Bar Association (SBA). It is a matter of great pride for all of us at the Law School that the student body enjoys substantial autonomy and is in fact encouraged by the faculty to engage in a wide range of curricular and co-curricular activities as well as hostel administration.
