But the pre and post wedding rituals in a Kannada wedding make the entire family come together and have a good time. The pre wedding rituals include Nandi, Nischay Tamulam, Havan, and Kaashi Yatre. The engagement ceremony is called “Nischay Tamulam”, where the bride is gifted with a few things. In the “Nandi” custom, the bride and the groom take blessings from God for a happy and trouble free life. The ‘Mandap Puja’ is an important Kannada Wedding ritual, where the wedding venue is worshipped and then ‘Var Puja’ is performed by the bride’s parents.

The face of the bride is covered with a fan made made up of peacock feathers by her sister, while she is accompanied to the stage by her maternal uncle. The priest chants hymns during the entire ceremony. The “Grihpravesh” involves welcoming the new bride to her new home. The Reception party is usually held at the evening time.
