Kannada Weddings refer to weddings in Karnataka. They are not very glittering and lavish, rather are simple and the rituals slightly vary in various communities. But the pre and post wedding rituals in a Kannada wedding make the entire family come together and have a good time. The pre wedding rituals include Nandi, Nischay Tamulam, Havan, and Kaashi Yatre. The engagement ceremony is called “Nischay Tamulam”, where the bride is gifted with a few things. In the “Nandi” custom, the bride and the groom take blessings from God for a happy and trouble free life. The ‘Mandap Puja’ is an important Kannada Wedding ritual, where the wedding venue is worshipped and then ‘Var Puja’ is performed by the bride’s parents.
The face of the bride is covered with a fan made made up of peacock feathers by her sister, while she is accompanied to the stage by her maternal uncle. The priest chants hymns during the entire ceremony. The “Grihpravesh” involves welcoming the new bride to her new home. The Reception party is usually held at the evening time. Music and mouthwatering cuisines dominate the reception party.
Indian Wedding is considered as one of the Sanskars in Indian Philosophy like Upnayan Sanskar, Pani-Grahan Sanskar (Wedding). This ceremony is considered to be of great spiritual importance and union of two souls and committment to live together and share the joy and sorrow of life with each other. The Indian Wedding marks the wholeness or oneness of life of two different people. Indian Wedding Ceremonies have great spiritual importance and are followed by Indian tradiitonal families with great respect.
